Water is a precious resource, and we should all do our part to conserve as much of it as possible. Luckily, there are many ways to save water in your home without making any major changes.

Here are eleven tips that can help you reduce your water usage and save money on your monthly water bill:

1. Install a low-flow showerhead.

Low-flow showerheads use less than 2.5 gallons of water per minute, compared to the 5-10 gallons used by traditional showerheads. This will cumulatively save a lot of water over time.

2. Install a low-flow faucet aerator.

Faucet aerators add air to the water stream, which makes it more efficient. Most aerators use 2.5 gallons of water or less per minute best denver air conditioning repair system .

3. Check for leaks and fix them promptly.

A leaky faucet can waste hundreds of gallons of water each month, so it’s important to check for leaks and fix them as soon as possible.

4. Turn off the faucet when you’re brushing your teeth or shaving.

Leaving the faucet running while you’re brushing your teeth can waste up to 20 gallons of water per day. Don’t leave the faucet running when you don’t need it, and turn off the water to your sink whenever possible.

5. Use dishwasher soap that does not produce suds.

Dishwashers require a lot of water to run properly, even if you choose low- or no-suds detergent. The extra suds reduce the efficiency of the machine, so try using eco-friendly dishwasher gel instead.

6. Only run full loads in the dishwasher and washing machine

This one is pretty self-explanatory… but if you only do laundry after all your laundry is dirty, and run the dishwasher when it’s full, you can save a lot of water.

7. Use a bucket to collect rainwater to use for watering plants or washing the car.

Rainwater is better for plants than tap water, and using a bucket to collect it is a great way to conserve water. You can also use this rainwater to wash your car – just make sure to use a hose with an automatic shut-off valve.

8. Plant drought-tolerant plants in your garden.

There are many types of plants that can survive with minimal water, such as cacti and succulents. Many re-blooming flowers also require less water than others. Such include:

  • Lantana.
  • Rose.
  • Adenium.
  • Hibiscus.
  • Bougainvillea.

9. Only use your sprinklers during the day.

Sprinkler systems often run throughout the night, so using them only at certain times of the day will reduce water usage and save money on your monthly bill.

10. Use a broom instead of a hose to clean sidewalks and driveways.

Cleaning off dirt and debris from sidewalks and driveways doesn’t require a ton of water… in fact, you can even do it without any water! Using a broom is more efficient for this purpose, but if you must use the hose make sure not to leave it running.

11. Take shorter showers.

This is probably the best way to conserve water – by taking shorter showers, you can save up to 500 gallons of water per month. If everyone in your household takes shorter showers, you can easily save thousands of gallons of water each year.

Conserving water doesn’t have to be difficult or inconvenient – try implementing one or two of these tips and see how much of a difference it makes. With a little effort, we can all do our part to protect this valuable resource. To get started, start by getting a low-flow showerhead from KALMER today.
