Online teaching, or e-learning, can seem like an easy task – you’re in front of your computer, and students are in front of theirs – but it can be more challenging than traditional classroom teaching. The environment and pace are different, and you need to build a connection with your students that might not be as easy as in-person interaction. To become an effective online teacher, keep these top 5 tips in mind the next time you create an online class(kelas online) or plan an interactive lesson.

  • Create more visual materials

Learn to create more visual materials. Visuals capture students’ attention; even if you’re not making a video lecture, even images or diagrams can assist you in more successfully communicating your thoughts and concepts And don’t be afraid to get creative; after all, you’re in an online classroom – so use any multimedia tools at your disposal! Using visuals is one of those simple things that can make all the difference in online teaching.

  • Be 24/7 accessible

Preparing lessons is a vital component of online teaching, but it’s not nearly as important as providing a means for students to get in touch with you. Today’s online classroom demands 24/7 accessible instructors. Students want immediate responses, so don’t make them wait! Keep open channels of contact with your students by email and instant messaging.

If they contact you on Sunday at midnight, be there Monday morning bright and early at 7 am—and vice versa! Online education gives busy working professionals around-the-clock accessibility; take advantage of that availability by responding immediately when your students need assistance or clarification.

  • Tell them what you expect before you start teaching

When creating an online classroom, give students a clear outline of what you expect from them, so they know what’s expected of them. Which can ensure they are more engaged with your coursework.

You should also explain your grading policies, tests, and quizzes and where their assignments will be posted (or even better, have it automatically assigned to an online dropbox for each student). If you expect your students to engage in discussion on an ongoing basis, let them know when appropriate.

Students tend to perform better online if they understand what’s expected before they start teaching. In addition, knowing ahead of time how much work may be due during any given week gives students time to adjust schedules accordingly and plan study sessions accordingly.

  • One-on-one attention is key

Students in online classrooms need individual attention, which means your job is to keep students engaged throughout every lesson. If you can’t physically see students as you teach, make a conscious effort to reach out and communicate with them through email or video conferencing outside of class time via email or video conferencing.

And be sure to check in regularly on their progress—the more engaged you are with your students outside of class, the more successful your course will be.

  • Recognize student’s achievements regularly

One of my favorite teaching tips is to recognize students’ achievements regularly. Whether an email or physical award, when a student achieves something great, it helps them develop a growth mindset and confidence in their abilities.

This simple action can make all of the difference in your classroom. Unfortunately, I have seen many teachers overlook opportunities to recognize students while they are still struggling with something while forgetting that sometimes small successes can be just as significant as others. And sometimes, we need positive feedback just as much as negative feedback.

The bottom line: give all your students praise in different ways, and you will see more progress in your classroom overall!

Conclusion

With students worldwide, there’s a lot to be said about online teaching. In addition to having global access to students and being able to work from anywhere you please, it offers a lot of flexibility. But if you want your online teaching career to be successful, you need tips that are surefire and easy-to-implement techniques. This post offers just that; take these tips, put them into action, and watch your teaching career skyrocket!
